Thanks for this incredibly interesting analysis.When I think of the dendritic tree of a cerebellar Purkinje neuron, my head begins to ache. If, in addition we consider molecular event such as down- and up-regulation of receptors and their coupling or uncoupling from either ion channels or other slower signal-transduction systems (themselves rapidly modulatable by events such as phosphorylation), the flexibility would appear to be even greater in scope. Too bad most folks don’t appreciate how remarkable are their own brains.
